Why Meditate?

The effect that meditation and mindfulness programs have on one's health and overall sense of well-being has been the subject of numerous clinical studies performed throughout the United States and Europe over the past 20 years.  These studies have consistently shown that meditation and mindfulness programs, when properly integrated into one's life, provide many benefits including:

  • Improved handling of stressful situations
  • Heightened immune system response
  • Reduction of stress-related health problems
  • Enhanced focus and concentration
  • Increased activity in areas of the brain responsible for positive emotional states

How Does It Work?

Meditation and mindfulness sparks a natural, transformative process within us.

Meditation teaches us to calm our minds so we can look clearly at our life experiences and our response to them.  When this skill is applied to our everyday life through mindfulness, we begin to see how we limit ourselves through habitual responses, defensive strategies and judgments of both ourselves and the world around us.  Once these background views are clearly seen, we can investigate how true and accurate they really are.  Those that we see as not true are naturally dropped, allowing us to live a more free and authentic life - whether we are in rush hour traffic, a long line at the grocery store or dealing with a difficult co-worker.

"The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this
center is really everywhere, it is within each of us."
- Black Elk
